BULLETIN: Unidentified illness strikes 25 members of Fort Hays State football team

Last weekend several members of the Fort Hays State University football team began to exhibit flu-like symptoms. As of Tuesday night, 25 members of the football team were affected and four had been hospitalized. No girlfriends or roommates have been affected thus far, so it appears that the condition is confined to the football complex.

The football players who are affected are all receiving medical treatment and the entire football team is under close medical supervision.

At this point, any diagnosis is speculative. Samples have been taken from the affected players and sent to a lab for analysis. The results will not be available for another day or two, and no other information is available. When the test results are returned and the cause of the illness has been identified, the university will release further information.

Dr. Edward H. Hammond, FHSU president, will make a brief statement about the situation during Tiger Club at noon today at the Country Kitchen, 3203 Vine.
