Dr. Thomas J. Buttery of Greenville, NC, has been named the new dean of the College of Education and professor of teacher education at Fort Hays State University. He will begin his position on June 12.
Buttery received a bachelor of arts in elementary education from Kean College of New Jersey in 1968 and master of science in both outdoor education and elementary education from Indiana University in 1970 and 1971 respectively. He received a doctorate in curriculum and instruction and administration and supervising from Indiana University in 1972. Buttery did post doctoral work in reading at the University of Georgia in 1978 and 1979.
Before arriving at FHSU, Buttery held positions as a professor, interim department chairperson, department chairperson, and director of graduate studies at East Carolina University in Greenville, NC. Buttery has also taught at the University of Alabama, Northeast Louisiana University, the University of Georgia and Indiana University.
Buttery has earned many national writing and research awards, and he has also been published in many professional journal publications.
Buttery is originally from Jersey City, NJ. He and his wife, the late Nancy Caldwell Buttery, have three children.
