FHSU's Sternberg Museum to host workshop on non-profit community relations

Fort Hays State University's Sternberg Museum of Natural History will host a workshop on "Community and Media Relations" from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 6.

The workshop is being presented by the Kansas Non Profit Association, a corporation dedicated to providing information, services and support to nonprofit organizations in Kansas.

Nonprofit agency executive directors, board members, professional staff and others interested in the nonprofit sector are invited to participate in the workshop, which will focus on developing a plan for nonprofit organizations to increase their media coverage and educate the community regarding their mission.

Two speakers will be featured at the workshop: John Montgomery, editor and publisher of The Hays Daily News, and Herbert Callison, executive director of the Kansas Non Profit Association.

Specific topics to be covered include working with the media; getting news items into the newspaper; preparing news releases, op eds, letters to the editor and press conferences; and talking with the media or an editorial board.

Fees for the workshop are $10 for KNPA members and $20 for non-members. Lunch will be provided. Although walk-ins will be admitted as space allows, early registration is encouraged. For more information or to pre-register, contact KNPA at (800) 582-1428 or on the Web at www.ksnonprofitassoc.net.
