Fort Hays State University's Home Horticulture class recently participated in a service-learning project during National Youth Service Day.
Coordinated by Dr. Jean Gleichsner, associate professor of agriculture, students planted ornamental grasses, flowers and shrubs and mulched, fertilized and installed drip irrigation at the Humane Society of the High Plains.
Funding for the project was provided through grants from the State Farm Good Neighbor Service-Learning Grant, $1,000, Wal-Mart, $500 and Midwest Energy Community Fund, $500.
