Fort Hays State University's financial planning team returned from the national finals of the Ameriprise Financial Planning Invitational with a fourth-place showing.
Rachael Cuta, Larned senior, Elizabeth Pauls, Glasco senior, and Kenny Osuwah, Isolo, Lagos, Nigeria, senior, ranked behind Kansas State Universtiy, Texas Tech University and Slippery Rock University.
The competition consisted of three phases: a written financial plan, an oral presentation of the plan with a twist and a game show event.
FHSU's team placed placed first in the presentation category.
"The team presented their plan before four of the best financial planners in the country serving as judges," said Dr. Tom Johansen, associate professor of finance and the financial planning program director. "'Exceptional,' 'outstanding,' 'great empathy,' 'caring,' and 'compassionate' were just a few of the words used by the judges to describe our students' presentation."
"I am very proud of Rachel, Elizabeth and Kenny," Johansen said. " It was a very close, competitive competition and they represented Fort Hays State University with dignity and professionalism."
This is the sixth year FHSU has participated in the Ameriprise -- formerly American Express -- Financial Planning Invitational, placing first, first, third, fifth and fourth in the previous five years.
