FHSU Art Department to craft Valentine's pottery sale
02/10/2006

What better way to show love to your sweetheart than with a handmade Valentine gift, even if you didn't necessarily make it.

Ceramic students at Fort Hays State University will have a "Sweet Art Sale" featuring Valentine's Day pottery on Feb. 13 from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Memorial Union.

"A lot of the pieces are designed for couples. We will have things like heart-shaped bowls, conversation hearts and jewelry at the sale," said Linda Ganstrom, professor of art.

All artistic Valentines are created by undergraduate students in advanced ceramics and graduate students with an art studio concentration.

The Art Department will also have a pottery sale from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on March 2 and 3 in the Memorial Union.

"The pieces in the pottery sale will be mostly functional," said Ganstrom. "Bowls, platters, mugs and decorative vases and raku pieces."

"We are raising money to attend the National Council on the Education of Ceramic Arts Conference, which will be March 7-11 in Portland, OR, and to fund a workshop that the Art Department will put on, led by Florida ceramicist Nan Smith on May 5-7," said Ganstrom.
