KFHS campus television station soon to join basic cable lineup

KFHS-TV, Fort Hays State University's campus television station, will soon join the basic cable lineup in Hays, Ellis, Russell and WaKeeney.

The student-run TV station will no longer have to share its current channel 13 with Hays High. Although the new permanent channel is undecided, it should be on-air by the end of March.

The station will continue to run its current programs but will air them repeatedly to give viewers a chance to catch what they might have missed. KFHS also plans to increase programming by adding new shows throughout the semester, including campus talk shows and campus news, Student Government Association Live, sporting events, Times Talk and graduation.

KFHS will work with University Relations, FHSU's public relations department, to broadcast the campus calendar, school postings and weather notices.

"Communities are in need of local programming," said Stephen Schleicher, assistant professor of information networking and telecommunications. "One of our current shows, Around Town, focuses on community events."

KFHS will also feature "Inside Campus," which will provide information on campus clubs and their upcoming fundraisers and community service events.

"Overall, the improvements to KFHS should help bring the community and the university together," said Schleicher.
