Members of Fort Hays State University's Agronomy Club recently attended the 2005 National Agronomy Meetings in Salt Lake City, Utah.
The students competed in the Agricultural Quiz Bowl, which tests students' knowledge of agronomy. Jody Gienger, St. Francis, Brian Mapel, Dodge City, and Tucker Sexson, Weskan, all seniors, placed fourth out of 24 teams.
"They were the only Division II school to attend the meetings, which speaks volumes of their ability to compete with Division I schools," said Dr. Bob Stephenson, associate professor of agriculture and club advisor.
Mapel was student chair of this year's speech contest; Gienger and Sexson assisted with the contest. Stephenson completed his second year as the faculty chair of the contest.
While at the meetings, the students also attended business sessions and toured production agriculture in Utah.
