Fort Hays State University senior Jeffrey Reece, Larned, was recently awarded the $300 Ermal Garinger Scholarship at the Kansas World Language Association Conference in Wichita.

Reece is a Spanish and accounting major and was nominated for the Garinger Scholarship by Patricia Wilcox, his high school Spanish teacher and an FHSU alumna. Reece wrote an essay explaining why he chose to study Spanish and its importance.

The scholarship, raised through donations taken each year at the KWLAC conference, is awarded to students who plan to continue the study of languages in college.
