New FHSU Endowment Association fund established

HAYS -- Fort Hays State University alumni in eight counties of southwest Kansas have taken a step to ensuring scholarship funding for their area students well into the future.
An endowed scholarship fund has been established by the Boothill Alumni Association of FHSU to provide scholarships for students graduating from high schools in Clark, Comanche, Edwards, Ford, Gray, Hodgeman, Kiowa and Meade counties. The Boothill Alumni Scholarship Fund will be developed with funds raised by members of that alumni group.
For more than a decade, the Boothill Alumni Association has provided annual scholarships for area students. The donated funds are raised through the group's annual fundraisers -- the Boothill Alumni Pheasant Safari and more recently a Golf Safari, which includes a day of golfing, a banquet, and a silent and an oral auction.
The association will continue to award scholarships annually and at the same time build an endowed fund. Eventually, the scholarships will be awarded from the endowment, with additional contributions continuing to build the principal.
"The Boothill Alumni Association has done a tremendous job over the years of raising scholarship dollars for students," said Virgil Scott, president and CEO of the FHSU Endowment Association. "Endowing a portion of the funds they raise each year will ensure that scholarship money will always be there for students from southwest Kansas. This approach is very progressive and guarantees that current fundraising activities will leave a positive affect on area students for many years."
The criteria for the endowed scholarship will remain the same as the criteria currently in place with the annual scholarship: preference will be given to full-time undergraduate students with a minimum grade point average of 2.0 and having graduated from one of the eight counties represented in the Boothill Alumni Association.
The FHSU Endowment Association is a non-profit organization that raises funds to support and promote educational undertaking at Fort Hays State University. Gifts donated to the association are used for scholarships, departmental programs, faculty development, and overall enrichment of the university. Visit the FHSU Endowment Association online at
