HAYS, KS -- Time consuming, confusing details of taxes for small businesses will be clarified in a workshop from Fort Hays State University's Small Business Development Center to be presented in three locations between Feb. 27-28.
Cost for the workshop is only $25 for participants who register by Feb. 20. Late registration, $35, can be obtained by calling (785) 628-6786.
The workshop will cover Kansas withholding tax and sales tax.
The first workshop will be in Great Bend, at the Golden Belt 1-Stop Career Center, 2120 11th St., D-106, from 8:30-11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27. The next presentation will be from 1:30-4:30 p.m. the same day at the Sternberg Museum of Natural History, 3000 Sternberg Drive, in Hays. The Colby Chamber of Commerce, 350 S. Range, will be the site of the third presentation of this workshop. In Colby, the workshop will be from 6:30-9:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28.
Presentations by the Taxpayer Education Unit of the Kansas Department of Revenue will cover four areas under the withholding tax and six under the sales tax.
Withholding tax topics will be withholding requirements, tax responsibilities, filing requirements and form preparation.
Sales tax topics will be the retailers' sales tax, retailers' compensating use tax, consumers' compensating use tax, a presentation of goods and services subject to sales tax, record keeping and purchases with exemption certificates.
