High school students from Graham, Norton, Phillips and Smith counties and Stockton and Palco high schools will be honored at a Fort Hays State University Student Recognition Program in Phillipsburg at 7 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 31.
The program will be at the Phillips County 4-H Building on the Fairgrounds north on U.S. 183.
Students who have been offered academic scholarships to FHSU will receive a certificate, a lapel pin and a T-shirt at the ceremony. Honorees and their parents will meet FHSU President Edward H. Hammond and will also have an opportunity to visit with university faculty and administrators.
Activities planned for the evening include an address by Dr. Hammond and a dessert buffet. The buffet is sponsored by alumni, friends of the university and area businesses.
Another highlight of the program will be drawings for a $400 scholarship from Emprise Bank-Hays and a $500 gift certificate from NexTech. The recipients must be present to win. Emprise Bank representatives will also counsel students and parents on obtaining student loans to attend FHSU.
The program is sponsored by NexTech and Emprise Bank, Hays, and the FHSU Alumni Association. Names of local sponsors will be displayed at the program.
Anyone interested in attending the Student Recognition Program should call FHSU graduates Denis and Sue Miller, (785) 543-6561, or the Alumni Association toll-free number, 1-888-351-3591.
