FHSU's Sedbrook named Educator of the Year for nine-state district

HAYS, KS -- Dr. Steve Sedbrook, associate professor of health and human performance at Fort Hays State University, has received the 2002 Educator of the Year Award from the Central District of the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance.

The Central District is comprised of Kansas, Colorado, Iowa, Missouri, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wyoming. Sedbrook had previously received the State Health Educator of the Year Award from the Kansas Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance.

The official criteria for the award were:

-- Minimum of five years of outstanding teaching experience in health education.
-- Demonstrated leadership in developing and implementing or directing and coordinating effective health education and promotion programs.
-- Outstanding volunteer service to the schools or community.
-- Exemplary service to the state, district and national health organizations.
-- Evidence of meritorious professional activity in innovative teaching, publications, presentations, funded research, special projects or other health related activities.
