HAYS, KS -- Fort Hays State University's Leadership Studies Program has officially become the Department of Leadership Studies.
The Council of Chief Academic Officers of the Kansas Board of Regents in November endorsed the status change and a new bachelor's degree in organizational leadership.
"I believe the Board's decision shows an emphasis on the importance of leadership and FHSU's commitment to providing the resources to train future leaders," said Dr. Curt Brungardt, chair of the new department.
Prior to the change, Leadership Studies programs were taken as an area of emphasis in other degree programs and majors.
Two bachelor's degree programs in leadership studies were approved last June.
"With the addition of the Department of Leadership Studies and the bachelor's degree in organizational leadership, FHSU is positioned to maintain its edge in the state and beyond with the respect to the provision of leadership education and degree programming," said Dr. Lawrence Gould, FHSU Provost.
