Fort Hays State University's Endowment Association has announced several new gifts.
The Kansas Masonic Foundation Inc. gave $63,334 to the Department of Communication Disorders. This was a renewal of a grant of $50,000 made in 1998 to establish a clinical education program focusing on the communication needs of the elderly in western Kansas. The grant funds a clinical instructor/program director position and four graduate assistantships.
The family of Frank Pechanec, B.S. 1970 and M.S. 1976, the university's personnel director who was killed in a plane crash last year, made a gift of $10,000 to endow the Frank Pechanec Memorial Scholarship Fund for FHSU history majors.
Dr. Babu Prasad, a Hays physician, gave $10,000 to endow the Prasad Family Endowed Scholarship for graduating high school seniors from Thomas More Prep-Marian High School who choose FHSU.
Stephen Tebo, B.S. 1967, gave $25,000 to endow the Tebo Family Scholarship for Mathematics and Computer Science Department majors with a preference for Graham County residents who have financial need. Tebo lives in Boulder, CO, where he is involved in real estate development.
Lon, B.S. 1971 and M.S. 1978, and Janyth (Frack) Pishny, B.S. 1972, made a $10,000 gift to endow the Pishny-Frack Scholarship Fund in honor of family members who have or are currently attending FHSU. It is to be divided equally between academic and athletic scholarships for Kansas residents. The Pishnys live in Garden City.
