HAYS, KS -- Fort Hays State University's Tiger by the Tale returned with honors from an assembly on Nov. 9.
They attended the Boosting Alcohol Consciousness Concerning the Health of University Students/Greeks Advocating the Mature Management of Alcohol General Assembly in San Francisco, CA.
Tiger by the Tale is an exclusive student organization with the purpose of creating awareness of social issues in youth through peer theatre.
They were awarded the national Outstanding Peer Theatre Award, the highest honor in this category. Six FHSU students were recognized at the BACCHUS/GAMMA conference for their work on this project.
"The six cast members of Tiger by the Tale have worked hard this year, and are very deserving of the award," said Bob Duffy, coordinator of the Drug Alcohol Wellness Network (DAWN).
"In a meaningful way, their skits address issues that students face today. It's great to see them recognized for their efforts," he said
Those who attended the event were Jessica Braun, Hays junior; Sarah Braun, Hays freshman; Zachary Butt, Manter senior; and Mandy Shirk, Johnson senior. University President Edward H. Hammond and Duffy were also present.
Pete Hardy, 11555 Floyd Drive, Overland Park freshman, and Shannon Hoffman, Hays junior, were recognized for their participation but were unable to attend.
