10/25/2001

HAYS, KS -- Three Fort Hays State University professors for the Department of Nursing were recently honored for their work and dedication in the field.

Eileene Bender, assistant professor, published a research abstract in the Journal of Nursing. Findings were shared from Bender's phenomenological study of emergency nurses' experience with the use of gallows humor as a release for their stress.

Dr. Nancy Blume, associate professor, was selected as a 2002 fellow of the Southwest Society on Aging. This honor is conferred by SWSA to recognize outstanding professionals and leaders in aging services and gerontological education.

Dr. Eileen Deges Curl, professor, was appointed to serve as the advanced practice member on the Kansas State Board of Nursing Education Committee. This committee reviews educational policies for basic nursing programs in Kansas and forms used for evaluation of programs, including site visit forms.
