HAYS, KS -- Fort Hays State University's Encore Series will present Vanities by Jack Heifner, a laugh-out-loud comedy about the growth of a friendship among three small town women coming of age in the 1960s and 70s.
Vanities will be presented in the Beach/Schmidt Performing Arts Center in Sheridan Hall on Saturday, Nov. 10, at 8 p.m. and will feature two-time Emmy Award winning actress Heather Tom.
Tom will play the role of Mary, the wild one in the trio. Sonia Satra, a successful actress and producer in both television and film, will play Joanne. Allison McDonnel, who has worked extensively in regional and New York theatre, will play the part of Kathy.
Vanities is a smart, snapshot-sharp chronicle look at the lives of these three women which includes witty dialogue that should keep the audience laughing throughout the production.
As the audience enters the theatre, the actresses are onstage at their vanity tables getting ready for the first scene, placing the show on an "automatic pilot," according to playwright Jack Heifner.
Heifner is best known for Vanities, which ran for five years in New York and became one of the longest running plays in off-Broadway history. He is also the author of Patio/Porch, Natural Disasters, Running on Empty, Bargains, Jumping for Joy and a number of other notable plays produced in New York, Los Angeles and theatres around the country.
Tickets for Vanities are available at the Student Service Center in the Memorial Union. The cost for reserved tickets is $17 for the general public, $15 for senior citizens and children under 18 and $13 for FHSU students. Unreserved tickets are $13, $11 and $8 respectively.
