HAYS, KS -- Fort Hays State University's Department of Technology Studies is hosting the 4th Annual Electrathon America High Plains Rally on Saturday, Oct. 13.
Electrathon is a race for electric cars built and maintained by area high schools and sponsored by local electric companies. Two 12-volt batteries are used to power each car. The design, with safety restrictions, is left to the discretion of each respective high school.
The race this year is scheduled in the fall instead of the spring and will be held at Felten Middle School instead of at Gross Memorial Coliseum. These changes were made because fall weather is more predictable and Felten's asphalt running track and seating are better suited for this event.
The experimental class will race at 11 a.m., the novice class will race at 12:30 and the standard class will race at 2 p.m. The awards ceremony is scheduled for 3:30.
Food and drinks will be sold throughout the event and spectators, fans and supporters are encouraged to attend. Electrathon attendance is free.
